This Privacy Policy explains what information Daily Jolt of Joy ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By subscribing, you consent to the practices described here.

What we collect

  • Email address — collected when you submit our opt-in form or are added by an administrator.
  • Subscription metadata — timestamp of subscription, source (web form, manual add, import), unsubscribe state, and the timestamp of any resubscribe or unsubscribe event.
  • Delivery records — per-send logs noting whether a given email was delivered, bounced, or generated a complaint, along with the provider message ID.
  • Server logs — standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, timestamp) retained transiently for abuse prevention and rate limiting.

We do not collect names, demographic data, device identifiers, location data, or any tracking pixels. Our emails do not contain open or click tracking at this time.

How we use it

Your email address is used solely to deliver the Daily Jolt of Joy newsletter and the welcome email that follows opt-in. We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose your email address to third parties for marketing.

Legal basis

We process your email address under your consent, given when you submit the opt-in form. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.

Service providers

  • Amazon Web Services (SES) — delivers email on our behalf.
  • Google Firebase — stores subscriber records, send logs, and authentication data for administrators.
  • Vercel — hosts the website.

These providers process data on our instructions and under their own security and privacy commitments. Subscriber data is stored in the United States.

Your rights

Every email we send contains a one-click unsubscribe link and supports the List-Unsubscribe header used by major mail clients. You may also email us to request:

  • A copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction of inaccurate data.
  • Permanent deletion of your subscriber record.

If you are in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar protections, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

CAN-SPAM

Every email identifies the sender, includes a working unsubscribe mechanism, and includes our physical mailing address. Unsubscribe requests are honored immediately (well within the 10-day window CAN-SPAM requires).

Retention

  • Active subscribers — your email and subscription metadata are retained for as long as you are subscribed.
  • Unsubscribed records — retained as a suppression list so we do not accidentally re-add you. You can request full deletion at any time.
  • Send logs — retained for one year, then deleted.

Children

The service is intended for adult teachers and school staff. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required, notify active subscribers by email.
